Re: HELP! Wiring Schematics for a 1978 Bayliner!
Check the Stickies at the very top of this forum (not this page). There is a Generic Boat Wiring Diagram there that shows how the vast majority of recreational boats are wired. Wiring for the engine is covered in the service manual for your engine. What specifically is the problem?
Every gauge except a speedometer, needs +12 volts with the key in the RUN position and a ground to operated. A fuel gauge has a wire (usually pink) on the "S" terminal that comes from the sender in the tank. Other gauges like temperature, trim, oil pressure, etc also have a corresponding sender wire. Voltmeters need only +12 volts and ground. Typically the internal light on the gauges get power from the NAV position of the NAV/ANC switch.
Power for the gauges comes from the "A" (accessory) terminal on the ignition switch for an outboard, or the "I" (ignition) terminal on the ignition switch for an I/O. Ground is ground -- wherever you find it but ultimately the negative terminal on the battery.
