I am in the process of converting a fishbox into a livewell and have everything completed except the wiring of the pump. I have a 23' Proline WA that has two extra accessory switches on the console and I want to connect the pump to one of these switches. My question is how do I wire the pump? Is it connected to the switch or can I connect it to the electrical panel which is located near one of the batteries. Do I need an inline fuse? Thanks for any help!

TS,

Where is the baitwell located and where will the pump be located? Then where are your batterys located? I ask because there is the straight forward way of doing this, which is to run a wire of adequate size from a switch on the panel, that is already fused, to the pump and find someplace to ground it. That is how any marina would do it and how 99% of the people on this earth would do it, but in some cases there's a better way. If the pump is anywhere near the battery switch or if you have a second aft power panel and ground buss then you will really be doing yourself a favor by using a relay in the line, powering it from the nearby source, and then simply running a light line from the switch panel. This vastly improves pump performance if you can get away with it. By the way, if you are going to plumb it with a T-fitting so you can also use it as a wash down (it only costs an extra three bucks and 10 minutes of your time to do it so you know you're gonna) this really makes a big difference in the water pressure available.

Thom
