Need guidance on where to install water pressure gauge on motor side on 2011 30hp. Mercury sea horse/Tohatsu 2 stroke. Was told to install a t in tell tale/pee line and did. gauge only shows 4lbs. pressure at wot.
Why do you need one? If the telltale is flowing well, you have decent pressure. Wrong spot for a gauge -- you need to be into the pressurized water manifold.
I concur with pvanv and also ask why you would seriously need one. Water pressure gauges are almost useless. WHY? Because they tell you nothing at all. You could have great pressure and have zero flow of water going through the water jacket on your engine. The tale tell stream is the best indication your water pump and flow is working. A gauge like this is merely eye candy... I know I had a bass boat with all the gauges, bells and whistles and basically most were for nil. And they do look good when they all are working properly, but most tell the operator nothing. But different strokes for different folks and yes you need to install such a gauge in the water system and not at the tale tell stream end to get proper pressure reading. It needs to be installed in the actual block via a fitting. But even then you will not get huge pressure readings either. And those reading will fluctuate as the RPMs change... JMHO!
It doesn't matter where you install the tap. Whatever reading you get will be the "normal" reading for you. So, if that reading drops later, you know you have either wear or a problem....However, water pressure gauges are for the most part, useless.
Sorry,Forgot to mention motor is on jack plate for running flats in southeast Texas.I believe keeping an eye on water pressure when raising motor is pretty standard when running marsh flats = skinny water  Pressure gauge came with threaded nipple for screwing into block. I am hoping some of the great people and Tohatsu gurus on this great site can tell me exactly where to screw the tap into the block on a 2011 30hp. 2 stroke tohatsu with electric start. "Yes its a 2011 30hp Tohatsu 2 stroke" Picture would be fabulous!!! Thanks in advance
Mission Impossible to connect a water pressure gauge on a 2 strokes Tohatsu 30 HP, if you find a proper place to drill a safe hole, screw a nipple and manage to works, let us know. If used in salt water that gauge will stop working properly soon, salt accumulation issues...
