Help w/replacing bearings please!

How do I remove the steel sleeve in order to get to the axle nut?<br /><br />

<br /><br />I banged on it a little and tried to turn it with a pipewrench but dont want to damage anything with too much force. Any ideas would me most appreciated.

Ya gotta bang it enough to get it to move a bit to the left and then a bit to the right to wiggle it OUT <br /><br />If your worried just wack it with a hunk of 2 X 4 :) <br /><br />From the looks of it ist time to get NEW ones anyway<br /><br /><br />tommays

Ok, thanx I got it. I was usin' a LFH instead of the BFH. Switched to BFH and it popped right off. Appreciate ya tommays!!

Agreed Bondo, new ones are on with new bearings too! Thanx for ya'lls help.

keep a close eye on the new bearing buddies the first few miles - if they're off even just a hair, keep bangin 'em back on - once they're on good they're on for good - but just the least bit off and it'll take off.

And if you want to remove them without damaging them so they can be reused, get a short length (10"-12")of galvanized or black plumbing pipe sized to just barely fit over them (probably 2" ID). This will provide enough leverage that you may not need to hit it with a hammer but if you do, there will be no damage to the bearing protectors. You can also use the pipe to install them, the pipe rests on the lip and it's easier to get them to go in straight.
