Not clear on which number you want.So, here's both.Conventional 50:1 pump is P/N 0398399 and the VRO2 P/N is 05004559.This number supercedes 0438406.

I guess that depends on where you're at.Most dealers and suppliers will ship overnight for a price.

ob,

Just fired one off to 'em....
thanx for your help..
and btw, the reason I was wanting to replace the pump was due to it sitting for almost five years.. I thought maybe the diaphrams may be starting to cause trash in the carbs by falling apart...
just didn't want to wait and see...
thanx for all your help...

Skip

Re: help?? VRO

Well.....
spent alot of time at the lake working on the boat trying different clamps looking for a possible air leak... to no avail..
boat runs great with one major exception...
after she runs just a few minutes at full throtle right around 5200 rpm...
she starts to surge... losing power and then surging back up 4500 to 5200... the surging remains in the same rpm range until throtle is reduced to about 3000 then it runs smooth...
any ideas what Gremlin is plagueing her now????

Re: help?? VRO

Raz,When engine begins to surge ,try rapidly bumping the fuel primer button on ignition switch and see if the engine tries to settle.Insure fuel tank is venting properly. That engine should be propped to turn between 5500-6000 at WOT.6000 would be better.Insure that the carb linkage roller is inline on center and "just touching" the scribe line on the fiber throttle cam when engine controls are in neutral. The roller can be adjusted by loosening its lock screw and adjusting roller position. This is a factory setting that insures proper timed opening of carb flaps in relation to ignition timing.

With the air silencer cover removed also note whether the carb flaps are opening fully horrizontal when controls are at full throttle. You'll need to have someone turn the prop while shifting to forward to prevent binding while engine isn't running.

I'll give it a shot..
anything else you think I might look at>>>
thanx again..

Re: help?? VRO

In my experience you problem sounds like nothing more than an ignition coil that is failing. Sometimes it will fire and sometimes it wont, thus the surging. Please let us know how it works out.

Re: help?? VRO

Raz,
I am curious to know what you figure out. I have had a very similar problem with my 40hp Evinrude. The surging. With mine I also sometimes got the alarm chirping at me too. I ordered a new VRO pump and am waiting for it to arrive. One thing I found was that when it started surging, if I pumped the ball for the gas, the surging would go away. But that is a pain in the read to try to do while you are running WOT accross a lake...

I will update you as my situation progresses.
Mic
