Re: HELP! Trolling motor stopped working.

Its a Motor Guide, what do you expect? (sorry, couldn't resist that). I assume you know there is no prop on it? Next check all the wiring to be sure you have 12V coming to it. If that is OK, check the wiring in the foot control. Use a pair of needle nose pliers and be sure no wire is broke at a solder connection. Over the years the wires get stiff and can look like they are making connection when in fact they are not. Thats the reason for checking them that way. Benn there, done that. Hope that helps.

Bad plug, Connection to battery bad, foot switch bad. Have to start at the battery and work your way to the motor...

Re: HELP! Trolling motor stopped working.

sorry guys it was supposed to be a joke...no thrust due to missing propeller...but thanks for the responses.

danpemby, it wasn't due to any impact...it could have been the shaft spinning out from under the prop nut due to insufficient torque upon re-installation from the last time I caught the propshaft with my fishing line...or it could have been a deliberate act of sabatoge perpetrated by a disgruntled piece of equipment, or else an act of self-defense by a school of white bass...I can't think of any individual fish capable of accomplishing the task. Or maybe one of the dog's practical jokes...hm...

Re: HELP! Trolling motor stopped **UPDATE**

It's Lake Lewisville near Dallas...15 mph wind will make about 2 foot rollers...then around noon, due to being in the middle of a large population center, the pleasure boating crowd starts arriving, everything from huge twin-diesel cruisers to cigarette boats to wake boats...that's when it gets fun!

Something I learned on my local fishing board:

This condition (lost propeller) apparently is the result of running with the big motor while the T/M is still down.

Something I've never done but yesterday just decided what the heck, for moving short distances at slow speeds, chasing schools of white bass.

Thanks for the "Heads Up" Jtexas, or is that a "trolls up" lol
I have done that before without the results you experienced but I will not do it again.

Hi J,

I don't know what happened to my post. But I appreciate the answer..Interesting about the prop coming off just dragging along....Never had that one happen before, but I bet you were suprised to see it gone. I know I would be... Damn Lake Sharks, ya know....8)
