help to set timing on 7.5 merc

just wondering if anyone wants to give me a quick run down on how to time and set my carb on my lil 7.5. for the most part actually it idles not too bad maybe a lil rough at low rpm,to be expected i guess, but is a lil hesitant ramping up from mid to mid.i noticed this thing pretty much runs on timing not on opening the carb.ie when you increase throttle the carb hardly opens maybe 1/4 inch but the timing moves quite a bit.my merc is model # 7155910

What you are describing is pretty much normal. To properly set the timing you need a manual and then follow the procedures for doing a link & sync. It is very important to do it in the sequence given.
