Re: help some idiot went flying in no wake zone and sunk my boat
Fresh water or salt? How long has it been out of the water? Was it submerged? What motor?

If water got in the motor it must be taken apart unless you get it running within hours. You can try to get it going and if you are able to do so run it for at least a half an hour. Fresh water wash down even under the hood. Whatever you do act quickly or consider it gone.

Another thought - Is it covered by insurance? That may be the way to go.

its a 50 hp johnson ,fresh water and i got it out with in ten mins ,pulled the plugs ,drain the carbs and fired it up ,i dont know if there is anything else to do

You may be OK since you acted so quickly. If it has VRO, don't forget to drain and clean any contaminated oil in lines and reservoir. Run the motor on the "break-in mixture" for about one half hour VRO + 50:1 mix}. Keep it up for the next 3 hours of running. Treat all your electrical parts with a water displacing electrical spray. OMC gives you three hours to start all this before more drastic steps are needed. Since you've already had it running, I'd think you were in good shape. Good luck and condolences on a-hole's actions.

Hi Fcptim

Sorry to hear, but I think you are fine as for the internal parts. Did you get it cleaned under hood. I would strongly recommend you to let it sit in the sun without hood for a couple of hours then spray powerhead and everything under hood with WD40 to keep it from rusting - works fine.

Good luck
