hey guys im trying to get a 115 evinrude model year is between 83-86, im not sure. im new to outboards and have my manual but it doesnt explain some stuff...

first off, are the air filter gaskets and such made from material or rubber?
whats the correct gap for this engine? 4 cylinder 2 stroke.
how hard is the lower unit to pull apart? i dont want ot open a can of worms but i would like to check my impeller because at low idle it only spits water, not a steady stream.

pardon any errors i make im a newbie to both boats and this forum.

There is an air filter?! I don't think there is an air filter, just a silencer. Not much dust out on the water.

Removing the lower is a hell of a lot easier than repair shops make it out to be. If tools ready, this could be less than a 10 minute job.

6 bolts, and a screw are all that hold it on.

Now, after the bolts break and your trying to get whats left of the bolt out of a corroded mid section, a pain...

I was too a noob a few years back. This forums has taught me a whole lot, and prevented many mistakes I probably otherwise would have made.

Im a budget boater so to speak. My boats aren't new, shiny, have paint, or hot chicks that want to ride in them. But that have all ran great, and I like to think I know what I'm doing, from the driveway to the lake.

There is a lot to know, about towing, safety chains, lights, trailer and ball types, rollers, bunks, outboard tilt position, transom savers, bearing, hubs, brakes, stopping, preparing... and that just before you leave the driveway.

Even with my inexperience, I still see boat going down the road, or guys at the marina, and I can point out what there doing wrong.

...read, you'll learn a lot.

Hang out in the trailer and boat sections for awhile, read random posts.

thanks for the help, i may have to pull my carbs to fix a leaky line thats why i didnt know about a filter or not. my trouble with it now is that its not pulling any water into the heads, and its only firing 2 cylinders. hopefully all will go well for me.

Re: help repairing a 115 evinrude

i have the repair manual, not the factory one, and im almost poitive its a 115 becasue it does not have the VRO system, i have to premix my gas with it. according to my repair manual 84 is when they started the VRO.

im not afraid to wrench around, i work on my truck and motorcycles and work for a construction yard as a mechanic's assistant.

my boats repair manual is my daily reader, im trying to learn that thing inside and out so i dont have to guess what that thingamajiggy does when i have work on it.
