Hello all,

Kind of a two-part question here:
Can anyone please help me find some info on my '12 montgomery wards sea king? I really just need the year and weight capacity. Based on the s/n (EA72J185), I'm thinking it's 1972. The model # is: 60-27127. Its a pretty narrow boat and I like to do a little conversion work on it. Noting outrageous, but I'd like to see what I can get away with. I have a 30lb motor guide trolling motor and am currently looking to get an outboard between 8-10hp. Any info, tips, pointers, and personal expertise would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

I've got a 67' Starcraft Sea Scamp, it's a bit narrow to tell you the truth. I had a ten horse (max rating for this boat) and honestly I feel it's too heavy for the boat. I went out and picked up a 5-1/2 horse for it.

Got a picture and some measurements?

I have a 1973 semi-vee (12' 48" beam) with no hull ID and I would never use more than a 7.5 and probably a 5. It came with a 10 and I never even put it in the water with that one on it.

My registration says capacity 4 (4*150 assumed). There is no way 4 people would be happy in that boat. I don't know if that is a carry over from the initial paper work or a computed value. I can can tell you that my son and I add up to about 590 pounds and the boat floats. :) I read somewhere else, maybe here that 600 was the maximum weight limit. IMO with motor, gear, and battery we have about 1" less free board than we should have.

Agree with the above, and keep it out of open water.

the 12' Sea King in this picture looks like the 12' Lowe boat that I sold last summer .... we had a 6 hp Johnson on it and that wasn't enough motor .... it was too small for me to feel secure moving around in and with 2 of us, it took a long time to get anywhere
