I have a 1976 115 hp Evinrude. I was about to take it out for my vacation. When I went to started it it poped one time and then lossed its spark on all 4 plugs. A guy said its the stator is there a way to check the stator or does someone have a idea what else could be wrong. I took it out 2 weeks before it ran great. Help if you can my wife & kids are not happy.

Whwn you disconnect the connector at the engine, this bypasses the harness and switch, which may be the problem. You jumper the starter solenoid at the red wire to yellow/redstripe to turn engine over. Do this with puugs removed. You check the stator with Ohm meter and peak reading meter, Stator output 150 volts, pack output 125 volts. Some of these engine also had problem with timer sensor air gap.

did you check to see if your lanyard was seated on the kill switch? I had to replace my old style female clip with the new fork style clip. the old one get worn and wont seat properly on the switch. Good luck.

Seems odd that all 4 cylinders would quit firing at once. I would take a close look at the engine wiring harness. Take all of the plugs out and check for spark, engine will spin faster with plugs out, if you get spark the timing sensor adjustment might get it going.

Thanks, Clanton I though so too I did take all the plugs out no fire. As soon as the weather clears up iam going to check the stator. We have been getting flooded here in the east. Does the 76 115 hp have points? The book I have does not say if it does or not.
