Do you have power to the + terminal on the coil? If so, put some new points and condenser in it. They go bad ya know.

Wouldn't really matter with a points ignition. The coil gets full power from the starter when cranking, even if the lanyard was off. Of course when you let the key off the start position it would die again.

open the dizzy cap up, and lightly sand the points, have someone turn the motor over are the points making contact, check the rotor, that making contact inside the dizzy, are the contacts clean?

Close the dizzy up, make sure the center plug on the dizzy is in good and all the other wires.

Now try to start the boat, still no spark?

Look to the top of the forum page, see " Adults only " click on it bring up the how to start a carbed motor and read that post.

Me i would sprinkle a little gas in the carb a few table spoons full, not alot and keep your face away from the carb and try to start it.

Still no spark??

You can jump the coil from the battery straight for a test but you got to be careful.

You can melt the points or weld them together if you leave straight power to the coil, this is just for testing.

You can also destroy the coil.

With someone at the switch you jump the coil with a heavy duty wire. Let them try to start the boat and when you remove the jumper wire does the boat still run?

UPDATE: new points and condensor have solved spark problem. now we are dealing with fuel. carb. needs cleaned very badly. we have started disassembling and cleaning hopefully this will solve carburation problem.

another big problem is that there might be a lot of moisture and rust in the intake. how should i get water out of intake???

Since the intake on a 3.0L engine is both exhaust and intake manifolds. Where are you talking about that you have mosture and rust. Pictures?????
