I'm sure other questions will follow, but currently just trying to identify year of great little Mariner, 30hp I picked up today. Needs a lil tlc, but think it just might work on my restore I'm currently working on. It has a plaque on it with the following numbers: 30 E O 689S250270. Any links to help me find out what year so maybe I can get a manual/parts list. Gonna fer sure need water pump, carb cleaning, plugs..but she runs pretty good. I just changed lower unit oil and it was free of water and/or metal shavings. Just having a little difficulty finding out the year. Much appreciation for the help. I'm usually over in the restoration thread(take a look at my latest red-headed step-child/Larivee). Hopefully, this engine will be a perfect fit on the new transom. Cheers...Lisa

You're awesome, Gerry, thanks. I'm off to work, but can't wait til I get home to look up some goodies for it...I love money pits! (actually, I considered buying brand, spankin' new for this restore, but saw this yesterday few minutes after he posted it on craigslist, & turned out pretty good find so far...and the guy was incredibly nice. $400 bucks for it. Time will tell. Think/hope little tlc (which I love to do) will be all she needs. Thank you kindly, again. Sure to keep you posted on how she runs after carbs, plugs.

I use the Crowley search engine as I like a lot of things about it but you don't have to order from them. Use the part numbers and search around online for better prices.

Re: help needed to identify year/manual 30hp Mariner

Found the plugs, thanks again Gerry. Next problem...I'm hoping I can get some encouraging input on this one...so we knew this motor would need a water pump...no problem...however, we didn't notice that one of the four bolts to drop the lower unit down had been broken off some time in the past (previous owner). The other 3, without a doubt, will give us a time getting off. Plan to put a little heat to them first & pray to the engine Gods...the real problem is the one that is broken off. Because of the cavitation plate, no clear shot to drill it out. Only a few inches at best below broken bolt...Any suggestions????
