Accountant needs to winterize a 1992 Mercury 115 motor for first time on own. Can I do it? How? I wouldn't think there is much to it, I'm fairly bright. Can you e-mail me detailed instructions? Thanks in advance for your replies.

I would recommend to first buy fogging oil (in the can). You can spray this into the cylinders where your spark plugs go. (Follow the directions on the can)

I also use a winterizing antifreeze that I run through the water pump. You can buy the jug and antifreeze at any marine store. You just hook your garden hose up to this device and then from the device to the flushing ears on your motor. Run the motor and then you turn the valve and the antifreeze goes through.

This way you assure yourself you don't have any water trapped inside, so nothing cracks.

I also would recommend taking out your battery and put in on a block of wood inside your house or garage. Use a trickle charge every few months.

*Change your lower unit gear oil*

Don't forget the trailer. Good luck

Paulfred, if you look at the link backlash said, you will be ok, and fishthebay has good advice also. The part I have to add is that the merc 115 is a 2+2 engine, so you need to remove the plugs on the sides of the two bottom carbs. They are brass. This is because a 2+2 only idles on top two cylinders, so you can't run the bottom two out of fuel, unless you are hard in the throttle. Draining is safer though. If you don't, that oil/fuel mix will be sludge by next season.

If you wanna know anything else about the 2+2, let me know, I've learned most of my knowledge the hard way so I am willing to give it out.
