I have a 1997 sea rayder f16 with a 120xr mercruiser motor. I bottomed it out last week and sucked up a lot of sand and crap into the jet drive. After washing it all out i am no longer able to plane out with the boat, it has very little power. The engine revs just fine, but it just does not go anywhere in a hurry. There seems to be minimal wear on the impeller, but the ring has some pitting and scores in the surface. Not sure about the gap, i never measured it before i took it apart. There is also dull edges on the blades of the stator. Is this a problem? I looked online and the stator is no longer available, and after getting the part number's from one website dealer for the impeller and ring kit, an impeller with the same part number for sale on ebay looks completely different! does anyone have any knowledge on these and/or a manual?? I really need to get my boat fixed!!!!

Shelby, it is better if everythings as it should be-impellor fins, wear ring undamaged and a tight fit. Doesn't sound like enough to drop the performance below planing though from what you've described.

I'm going to guess the ride plate was damaged, or pulled out enough for the ride plate gasket to blow out. Doesn't take much for ride plate to leak allowing exhasut gases into your intake.

Inspect the ride plate, if there's no visible damage apply silicone (won't hold) around ride plate and see if boats performance goes almost back to normal till the silicone give out. If so you need a new ride plate gasket.
