I am having an issue with my 40hp Nissan not firing on the number 2 cylinder. I first noticed the loss of horsepower about two months ago and promptly took it to a local boat shop (not a Nissan dealer). Since it had been sitting a while they said it was most likely gummed up carbs. They cleaned them. First trip to the river it ran fine for about 200 yds. So I took it back, they then told me it wasn't firing on the number 2 cylinder, said it needed a coil pack. So they replaced the number 2 coil pack. Next trip to the river same thing. When I called they told me it might be something else electrical (maybe the CDI box). I know that cylinder isn't firing as the spark plug looks brand new. Is there anyway I check the CDI before I'm out $300 for a new one?

Re: Help! Missing RPM's

We need the exact model on the 2-stroker. If it's an earlier unit (2-cylinder), there's an easy field check -- reverse the plug wires and see if cylinder 1 stops firing. Different story if it's a newer 3-cylinder -- that requires actual test equipment.

Service manual equals test procedures which equals saving money rather than just playing "pick a part to replace".

PVANV,
It is a three cylinder.

Don't have a service manual, all I have is a parts diagram. Where can I get one?

Thanks
