Hi, I'm new to the boating world but I'm looking forward to starting my first boat rebuild. I bought a 1977 Wellcraft Airslot 21 with a preformance trailer. Well I traded a 95 Grand Am Gt with a blown head gasket for it. Payed $400 for it. The motor is locked up tight. It has a MerCruiser Alpha one 4.3 liter V6 (ser. number C617865) and a Alphia one outdrive (Ser. 08989191?). The outdrive is hard to see.
The boat is in good shape. I know this is not the original motor or outdrive. I need to find a web site that I can tell what year and model this motor is. I also need to find a service manual for it. It seams MerCruiser has a lot of different manuals for the 4.3's.
I can't wait to get started on this!! I'm going to try to pull the motor this weekend. I have a rebuilt 1989 4.3 liter V6 out of a Chevy astro van. Its just been bored, new piston, rods re-sized, new cam bearings, crank turned, new rod and main bearings. It even has new brass freeze plugs. I'm going to use the cam out of the marine engine when I put it together.
If any one would have any info on the engine and outdrive, it would be a big help! Also should I use a marine gasket set. Like copper head gaskets? It has a heat exchange.
Thanks to all how read and respond to this!! I like this forum!!
