I'm having trouble wrapping my head around this.I have a mercruiser engine. The steering is stuck. After much research I unscrewed the large nut before the tube. The steering turned with ease. The bar slide in and out of the tube with ease. The other side of the tube with the 3/4 "stainless tube coming out is frozen solid. How can one side slide in and out while the other side is frozen?? How do they connect inside the tube?? The manual says to lube the 3/4 stainless tube so I assume it moves.I read to torch the tube so I did while a buddy tried to move the outdrive with no luck.(the large screw still unscrewed).Could someone try to explain how the cable works inside the tube so I can get this unstuck..Thanks

Do you have power steering? The stainless rod that attaches to the outdrive steering arm is part of the steering cable. Removing the cables nut will just make the cable move away from the tube. Take the pin out of the steering arm that holds the SS rod and pull the steering cable out of the tube to make sure it's in good shape and see if the outdrive moves then or is froze up.

After a half a day,map gas and a seriously tweaked back I gave up yesterday. This morning I woke up fresh and decided to give a go.Some PB blaster a broken broom handle to slide behind the motor against the clevis pin housing. And 3 taps on the broom handle it broke free in 2 seconds...Never start a boat project 3 oclock in the afternoon after being on a 100 deg roof all day..brain dead
