Help me get the year of my outboard

I Bought a use outboard the person tha sold it to me said that is a 1983 but he din't look sure.I need to buy parts for it and I don't want to end up buying parts for the wrong year. can somebody help me to make sure this is the right year all I could see in the motor is tha it all black 6 cylinders,3 carburetator is power trim and the cover saids Merc 1500 I think this is the model,because I don't see no model # and the serial # is 620079 and is a Mercury also needs to know the Horse power thank for any help

Is there one more number in the serial number? Should be 7 numbers. Probably a 3 or 4??

you right the serial # is 6200079 I was mising a 0

Max, I believe this is it:<br />150HP 5944791 - 6220253 1982 V6 for the 1500 Motor. 1500 means 150 HP.

thank for the help, it means tha my motor is a 1982? I forgot to tell you tha my motor is a mercury 6 cylinder on line is not a v6.

I come up with 1978 model merc 150 hp inline 6.

Rick,Those dang Mercurys make it like rocket science sometimes to decipher year models.Second only to Suzuki.

I believe the previous owner that it was a 1983 because it have powertrim, and I throught tha the 70;s outboards din't have power trim. thank you guys I preciate your help.

78' model 150 Mercurys did come with power trim.
