Help Me Fix Electric Troll Motor...

I have a Shakespeare WonderTroll Super 606 that was on my boat that got away in a windstorm & sunk & washed up on beach...I have got power to it now but prop isn't turning...power light is on etc. & I hear a light hum in shaft...any suggestions? Thanx much from up here on Whidbey Island in Puget Sound. - Arne.

Can you turn the prop of the trolling motor by hand? If so is it smooth turning?

Yes...prop turns easily...can feel slight resistance but not much. Thanx.

I'm not going to be able to get to technical about the problem at hand myself but these other guys are great on hear. My thoughts are that something has got corroded in the lower unit or something has gotten into the lower unit if it has a little resistance

Some resistance is normal. Take the motor apart and get the water out. It could have got in there down the shaft while sunk.

You may not want to power anything on the trolling motor like it is because you might burn up something if you haven't got something on the trolling motor burnt up or shorted already. I wasn't considering the magnet or brushes in the motor being the resistance true bhile my bad arnesr.

THANX GUYS...ya I figured I'd take the bottom unit apart & check it out as well as shaft...that unit should be sealed air-tight I believe but I'll check it out & the wiring etc. Thanks again. - Arne.
