So this duck season a guy I hunt with burned up my powerhead on 2000 mariner 15. I bought a used power head good compression and everything seemed to be ok. Got it all put together and can not get it to start sounds different when I pull it now. It does have spark. Carb just rebuilt and good gas new plugs also (gaped correctly) can anybody maybe direct me where to look next!? That would really be appreciated!
Thanks

Ok well first off are the plugs wet looking after you try to start. That is the first thing to look at if their dry then its not getting fuel, if they are wet then then its not getting spark at the right time. That will give you a few things to look at. If your getting spark then the kill switch and tilt switch should be ok. It may be that the carb is set to lean. You can spray bit of pre mix into he cab or cylinders if the plugs are dry, but do not use starting fluid thats the worst thing you can use. It washes the 2 stroke oil off of the main and rod bearings and the cylinder walls.

Should I just pull the plugs and spray a little fuel into cylinder? What do you mean by the carb being too lean. As in its just not sending enough fuel?

Timing normally does not go out of adjustment.----------A sheared flywheel key will throw out the timing.

Yes you can put some fuel mix directly in the cylinders to see if the carb is actually sending fuel through. Mercs are known to need a good bit of fuel when starting and people tend to adjust the carbs to lean while its running and that makes them very hard to start.
