Help-Major $$ Suzuki D-140 problem

I have a 2002 DF-140 4 stroke. Had a tune-up to include new plugs and batt's 2 weeks ago. Ran perfectly all day on a saturday afternoon. Went to flush engine at home and motor would crank and not fire. Several hours later ($$$) at a Suzuki repair shop, the mechanic has it down to a bad ECM or the wiring harness. "Everyone", to include the mechanic, said they've never seen an ECM need replaced. Although he's not 100% it's the harness, in the grand scheme that is the lesser of the expensive repairs.

So... does anyone have an idea of what else this could possibly be? I can't tell you what the shop did other than what I would ***-u-me would be the obvious testing. He is getting his hands on another ECM to see if it will run or not to illiminate or determine if it is the unit.

Originally, he could mess w/ the harness and it would run 30 secs or so and shut off, and now nothing.

Any input appreciated.

Check to see if your engine has a seperate "white" wire. This wire will come out thru the main rubber grommet with the battery cable and will have a fuse near the terminal end that connects to the battery. Check fuse, and terminal connection and battery.

No white wire on that model year. Most likely a bad ground. When you turn the key just to the "run" position, does the alarm sound and warning lights come on?

Mechanic got an ECM from a dealer to swap to see if mine is bad- it still didn't fire. The good news is that my ECM ($$) is probably ok, so going w/ the harness unless anyone has a suggestion.

thanks

I would find someone trained in SUZUKI (Johnson) who has the correct tools and manuals as it should not be guess work

It's at a suzuki authorized shop/marine.

Not so much guess work as to what might be broke but the "part" can't just be pulled and said, "see where it's crispy?, that's where it burned."

If you have checked for spark at the plugs and you do have spark then it could also be a fuel issue. One simple check is to listen for the high pressure fuel pump which is located in the vapor seperator to come on when you turn your key to the on position. One person at the key switch one person listening at the vapor seperator. A fuel pressure gauge is even better.
