Help installing needle and seat!!

I just opened my new needle and seat kit, its been a few years since I did this and the little rubber seal that goes into the seat has two sides, one smooth and one grooved with a little circle and two notches. I'm not sure which side goes down and which side goes up. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

It is designed so that the grooved side goes toward the needle for better sealing.

In reality, either side will work, so if the seat is worn, you can just flip it over and re-adjust the float level.
