Hi, I'd like to know where I can find a cheap hitch receiver for my Ranger 3.0
I've checked several websites and found one for $108. Are there minimum requirements for a good receiver?

And they all say "install it yourself"...do they really mean it? Or do I need a lift and a welder?

Thanks in advance...

Howdy, B.

How much do you want to tow? The OEM Ranger bumper hitch is a class II (2000lb), and I wouldn't recommend towing more than that with a 3.0. A check of a few wrecking yards should get you a step bumper.

Good luck. :)

Receiver hitches are bolt-on. Most use existing frame holes. Some 'might' require a litle drilling. Not hard, start with a center punch and go up by graduated drill bit sizes, with sharp bits and cutting oil.

The rear bumper on our 91 ranger seems very cheap. I would not trust a trailer over minimal weight (500 pounds) on it. It may be rated higher, but a receiver (class III) gives you a much better margin of safety.

$108 is a good price.

Re: Help in finding proper hitch for Ranger

My new tow which I plan to buy next month will be an 18-19 ft runabout between 2500lbs and 2900lbs (haven't decided exatly which boat model)

Living in florida and its flat terrain, I'm confident the 3.0 can take that. Matter of fact I'm pullin 2000lbs. as it is for a year now, so far no problem.

By the way how many kinds of bumpers for the Ranger are there?

Hi, B.

Don't.

You will not be able to pull the boat up a ramp without burning your clutch up, but worse, you will not be able to stop the rig in an emergency.

Buzios,

I remember your last post. JB is right-don't.

You are ASKING for it, towing that load with that truck with the manual trans.
