Hi Everyone!

I’m on a hunt for a small wooden boat...

A couple of years ago I came across, what has been described as a 14’ 1958 Carter Craft. Regretfully I did not purchase it when I had the chance…

Picture: http://www.gregwhit.com/Around_Town/5-7_April_02/LoRes/Img_0019.jpg

After much time searching the Internet I have few leads. Some say it was not a “Carter Craft”, rather a “Cadet Craft”, but Vessel Registration insists it was a Carter Craft.

So now I’m turning to the experts. If you know anything about these little boats I’d really appreciate hearing from you.

Many Thanks!
Greg S. Whitcomb

Mr. Whitcomb,

I also have a 1958 Carter Craft, 19', Day Cruiser. Original name was "SHIGO", all hardware is original, needs some sanding/varnishing, approximately 1/2 complete on restoration, was a vessel used at Cypress Gardens for the skiers (back in the day). I will be posting pics soon if you are interested, please let me know. There was a slalom ski in the boat autographed by "Bucky".....it has a 1959 Mercury Stack 6 "Dock Buster" engine.

Oh, and by the way, Carter Corporation is located in Panama City Beach, Florida. They have been in business forever.

I tried your link but it did not work for me. Try my link below to fiberglassics.com where they have a little info and a couple of pictures of Carter Craft Boats. I always wanted one!

Hi Gail,
I now have two Carter Craft SeaFlites, which may be the same model as yours. I would be interested to see pic of your boat... Also would like to invite you to join our Registry for Carter Craft boat owners. Our registry leader has compiled a history of the Carter Craft company thay you might enjoy... they actually went out of business in the late 60's.
Let me know if you are interested.

tim.......

I also own a 1957 Carter Craft. I also represent the southern states newsletter and registry for Carter Craft boats. Need more information on your boat, but James Carter first built 14 foot fishing boats in his cabinet shop before moving intto the larger 16ft and 18ft boats. Later he would leave Carter Craft and go back to just building fishing boats 14ft. He did this under the name "Carter Boats". There should be a small brass tag near the bow area and center of the boat. Almost all of the boats had pinstriping on the sides, similar to the larger boats. If there are any carter craft owners on this site that would like to join the newsletter, please contact. It is free to join. We do not advertise, take donations or any other types of income. Just dedicated to preserving the history of these boats. You may also want to check out the Bay Historical Museum in Panama City. You have to ask to see, but they have one of these boats on display in a private collection.
