So in replacing the blower on my older Caravelle Fish & Ski, I had to remove a strange basin to get access as it took up most of the starboard side of the engine compartment. It is maybe a foot or so deep and connected to the bilge pump system with a pass through line on top and a drain line at the bottom that went to a port in the hull. The previous owners clearly used it for storage of oil and gear lube bottles. My question is - what is it? An overflow system? Somethng to do with the livewell (which is in the bow of the boat)? Something else? It did not appear to be professionally installed and in all my looking in other engine compartments I have never seen such a thing. Bottom line is, do I need to re-install it, or can I leave it out for better access and storage. TIA!20210615_133121.jpg

Yellow tube is a spray bar for a livewell / baitwell. Your comment about there being a drain overboard supports that.
