I have a 1970 60hp Evinrude. Model # 60073B.

Every parts diagram I have looked at for this motor has the control box having 3 separate buttons for the gear selection.

The one I have is a hydro-electric but does not have the buttons. I searched/looked at some diagrams for controls from some years before and some after and can't find it.

I have posted some pics. Can anyone help identify it?

Thanks, Mike

Of course. You simply have the Johnson control (obviously). Evinrude and Johnsons were the exact same motor except for the hood and remote control. Some people didn't care for the push buttons and swapped it out for a Johnson control.

I have the OEM service manual for a '71 60HP Johnson I used to have. It had that control. I'll scan the pages for the control and email you if you want.

The switch is a rocker switch built into the control.

That's the same as my 1972 50 hp esl. johnson If it doesn't work for the Evinrude I'll give you $100.00 for it.

mike64, that would be great. I have the factory Evinrude manual but it has the Evinrude shifter. Thanks, Mike

I don't know why I didn't go look at the Johnson parts diagrams. I ASSUMED they were they same. LOL. Well I see it now under the Johnson control.

Thank you all.

mars, I am using it, so I can't sell it.

My scanner stopped working. I have access to another scanner, so I'll get those pages scanned and get them to you later today or tomorrow.

Re: Help identify Hydro-Electric controller ????

I need to put a longer throttle cable in it. What style cable does it take? OMC Type 400?

Since will have it open, what do i need to get to make the "friction adjustment knob" hold better. Can it just be "tightened" up internally to make it work better? or do I need some parts?

Thanks, Mike

Yes, Type 400. BTW, you should have a black plug on the wiring harness. If its yellow, its for a later motor, with Mag CD ignition.
