Help how bad did I screw it up 98 johnson 40hp

I stripped the splines out on the drive shaft that goes into the bottom of the motor. I thought I ruined the lower gearcase but it happened to be the splines on the upper drive shaft. Did I ruin the crankshaft or just the drive shaft? I can send pics if needed. I cant setup in the motor to see those splines are shot as well. Hoping the shaft is softer and the crank splines are ok. How expensive could this get ??

You'll have to find out how bad the splines are in the c/s are before going any further. They do make scopes to look into spark plug holes to check a cyl out. Maybe one of those would help or else pull the p/h.
