Re: HELP... have Yamaha Marine I/O

Ayuh,... They were imported for 2 years, then lost a lawsuit...

Yamaha abandoned the North American market, 'n new parts Can't be found anywhere, at any price...

Their only real value is bein' scrapped for used Parts...

Whats wrong with your drive? I can still get all consumables( 'o' rings, seals, gaskets etc. ), from my local yamaha dealer. Things like new gears are NLA. So depending on whats wrong with your drive will determine your next step. Lots of parts and such on ebay.

Re: HELP... have Yamaha Marine I/O

My experience is the same as rico - consumables are relatively easy to find online. Most parts are available except for some gears & etc as he mentioned. Prices for the OEM parts are another deal - some things are over-the-top expensive. The gimbal bearing is same as a Mercruiser for example. If your local Mercruiser parts guy is experienced they can probably identify that kind of stuff by sight. I just replaced all the usual ignition stuff with the Mercruiser GM 3.0 equivalents from NAPA. Clymer has a repair manual that covers all the Yamaha I/Os - it's by no means equal to a factory shop manual but does have plenty of good info. You can find that book all over the internet. Lots of great info on this site as well, you just have to dig a little. If it was easy it wouldn't be fun - right?

Re: HELP... have Yamaha Marine I/O

Well guys, I was afraid this was gonna be the case..... More Trouble than it was worth fixing.
I guess there used to be a guy who was like a specialist on these otters but he isn't around anymore?
I looked for clubs and such but maybe these Yamaha I/O owners already beat each other to death?
As unbeleivable as it is...
Somebody spent alot of time on this 28'r Rebuilding the cabin and entrance/bulkhead, the fuel tank, the rear deck, the 5.7 Engine, The Outdrive, and mounting a rebuilt 67 Merc 1100 SS Thunderbolt 6 for a kicker etc. back in 2000-2001 and used it as a fast crabber untill some time in 2002. Then.... as horror stories go "a domestic disintigration" occured, in which the Trailer suffered considerable damage [why is it always the ones that get dragged through it that suffer the most?] and the whole in the water ended up sitting for well until now. During that time, someone stoled the IG MOD, removed the carburetor, and left her sitting there with rain getting into the intake.
A real crying shame!
Besides a dryrotted flybridge and sun fried electronics, rear deck and a now crusted worbler chevy which is now a ship anchor, the moral of the story here is dont let a You Know What near your only true means of escape... unless yur tak'n em deep sea crabbing.
So, what I ended up with when I got it home and surveyed her.. was apperently a vessel that needs the 'good's removed... and the rest turned into a small nearshore reef ! But, I am wondering if anybody that visits "iboats" thinks their classifieds are better than say craigslist or other selling sites and if so why? Of course their are LOTS of good and now rare hard to find items so since her hull is going the way of refuse, I need feedback about listing her other parts to the happiness of good homes for the needy. I would love to here back on others experience/s with iboats classifieds.
THANKS: John
