I am trying to drop my lower unit to replace the water pump. I am not sure where to disconnect the shift rod. Here are some pictures. If anyone can point out which bolt needs to be removed it would help out a lot.

In the last picture, bottom row/right.... you'll see the shift clevis attached to the engine of the shift lever. Screwed into the side of that clevis is a slotted 3/8" or 7/16" hex head shoulder bolt which is accessed on the port (left) side of the clevis. Remove that slotted hex head bolt (NOT the one you see in the picture!).

As you shift from neutral to forward or reverse (or have someone do it for you) you can see the shift rod moving up and down. They did a pretty good job of hiding the screw you are looking for.

Reeves, do you mean this bolt? The one the arrow is pointing too?

See number 85 in exploded diagramShift 85.jpg and the shift rod screw in the upper right corner.

That looks like it in your photo. Can you see the shift rod (has flat on this end and bend) riding in a slot just on the other side of this?

On mine you need a long extension and socket to get at it.
