Hi all, 1st time boat owner, bought a 1966 MFG 14' with a 1974 Evinrude 50hp outboard, model 50473m. Ran great the 1st time I took it out, then when I took it out the next weekend, it cut out on me about 20 minutes in and wont start back up. There is nothing that happens when I turn the key. Battery is good, and there is power at the solenoid and the starter.
Replaced the ignition switch, and still nothing...

Any ideas?

You say nothing happens when you turn the key but is the starter turning the motor over but not starting?

What happens when short across the solenoid terminals?

If nothing there, apply power directly to the starter motor using jumper cables?

you need to be more especific ... power at the starter means you have a dead starter if it does not spin.

proper grounding is essential not just 12v battery . check all connections for bad crimps, oxydation , bad connector plugs etc....

if the 12v at the starter is truly a good 12v and the starter is not defective grounding is poor and not letting the amps flow back to the battery grd post

Reading the Original Post. Engine died, and the Starter didn't crank?
Replacing Key Switch didn't fix the problem?

What about the Neutral Safety Switch in the Control Box?
What condition are the Battery Cables and Connectors?
If power is applied to the Solenoid Terminal to activate the Solenoid, does the Starter crank? Does it crank, if the Solenoid is Bypassed?

If you meant, it cranks but doesn't run
Does it have Spark, on both Cylinders, good enough to jump a 3/8" gap?
Does it have Compression?
Is Fuel getting to the Carbs?

if so... bad starter or bad grounding has my vote !

Or an idiot that spent over an hour trouble shooting a starter issue related to not connecting one of the ground cables when he swapped out the batteries.......lol

shxxt happens you know..actually a bad oxydized cable crimp will do it while still allowing enough juice to flow for a good VOM reading .

time wil tell. of course not reporting the proper symptoms to the Doc. can lead to the graveyard :)
