You want to make the long shaft into a short shaft? <br /><br />Does your motor have the bolt on extension? If not, it cant be done without replacing the mid section. otherwise you would just unbolt it.<br /><br />Then you will need to take the "drive shaft" out of the lower unit, and replace it with a short shaft.<br /><br />Also you will have to cut the water pick up tube to make it shorter. And you would have to replace the exhaust tube.<br /><br />You will then have to buy a new shift linkage, or cut and weld the one you have to make it shorter too.<br /><br />It would probably be easier and cheaper to buy a short shaft motor of the same era. Or you could maybe trade with someone.
