My daughter ran our 02 GTX without the plugs in for 2 hours. She said there was no water in the engine compartment and no water came out when they pulled it out of the water. This was 2 days ago. It has not been in the water until today. She just called and said it was very hard to start and sounds wierd. I told her to load it up and bring it home. Is it possible there could be water in the engine? If so can it be saved?

I'm not familiar with your particular ski, just with your particular problem! Kids launched our WaveVenture without plugs, and darn near sank it. Go so much water in that I had to pull the plugs and crank the engine. Had a ten foot fountain of water. After pumping the water out, put the plugs back in, fired it up and took it for a hard run to evaporate any left over water. Ski is fine now.

Long winded way to answer, but if the ski is cranking over, it shouldn't have ingested any water. If there really was little water in the ski, could be unrelated. I'll assume your ski is like mine and has a method of pumping out the bilge while it's running. That could explain the lack of water inside the hull.

Not sure if this was helpful, but good luck!

from what you describe, it doesn't sound like water got in the engine. Report back when you hear the noise yourself.

GOOD news. Checked the plugs they were fouled. Ski was flooded really bad and found the plugs to have the wrong gap. Her boyfried was gonna help us out. Pulled the plugs replaced them with correct gap and plugs. Fired up first try only noise was a rattle it has had since we got it. If you rev to 1450 rpm is goes away and smooths right out. Next question how do you adjust the idle? 2002 GTX 2 stroke carberated.

there's an idle adjustment screw on the carbs. what is the rpm's at idle? it should be about 1400 in the water and about 2800 out. what plugs are you using? they should be NKG BR8ES with a gap of .020-.024 inches.
