To give some background I was having engine troubles with my 89 70 hp VRO. I thought it was a clogged water separator ( it wasn't but it was a guess). So I took it out and drained the fuel and a lot of water. So after putting it back in place I am unable to prime the fuel lines to start it up to see if the fix was made. We got it running with the auxiliary and determined that it was actually another problem ( a carb bowl plug had come loose and was starving/flooding the engine). We fisxed that and then tried to prime the fuel line to get vback to normal. Well after squeezing the da** bulb so long my forearms looked like Popeye I still can't get teh fuel line to prime. Has anyone else drained their water separator and had difficulty priming the line? If so how did you solve it? Inquiring minds would like to know?

Re: Help! can't prime the fuel line

did you fill your fuel/water separator canister, with fuel before installing. sure helps when it comes to priming. are you getting any fuel to the carbs, running over? if not running over remove a one of the drain plugs on the carbs and see if you have gas there. no smoking while doing this.

No I didn't fill the separator. Pretty dumb now that I think about it. Will try that tomorow

I ran into a problem like this a couple of weeks ago. My problem was a cracked fitting on the fuel tank, it was sucking more air than fuel. A simple brass elbow to replace the defective plastic piece had the problem solved for about $2.50. Not saying this is your problem, just something else to look for.:)

Re: Help! can't prime the fuel line

Well I wanted to get back to thank those that gave advice. I did not have to fill the water separator with fuel. As it turns out the answer was to ensure the bulbe was pointing straight up when you squeezed it. I got that piece of advice from one of my fishing websites and it worked. Hopefully someone else can make use of it.

Still can't get the engine running though. Seems that the carbs are flooding now. I have to take it back to the place that did the carb work and see what is what.

Re: Help! can't prime the fuel line

you are running an aftermarket fuel line. they have to have the arrow point to the sky, inorder to prime. oem's don't.
