HELP! Boat is in reverse when lever is forward.

My boat goes backward with the lever forward and reverse when the throttle lever is pushed forward.
The prop is a
SKU: #48-832834A45
Manufacturer: Mercury Marine
Brand: Black Max
Material: Aluminum
Diameter: 14?
Pitch: 23?
Blades: 3
Rotation: Standard (Clockwise)

This alpha 1 gen 2ser# on401226.
I replaced the impeller but just purchased the boat, so not sure if it was this way or not or something I did. It shifts fine and prop spins fine.

Looking at rear of boat
shift lever forward, turn prop ccw-clicks and locks turning cw and foot connecting upper to lower is pointing to port side
lever in netural prop spins freely
shift lever pulled to rear, turn prop ccw locks and clicks when turning cw and foot is pointing straight to bow

EDIT-----Oops, read it wrong.

OK, lets try this again. If, the shift foot in the bell housing is pointed to starboard when in forward, and straight ahead in reverse, then the cable in the control box is in the wrong spot. Post a picture of your control, and I can show you where it should be.

Has the cables or box been worked on lately?

The photo "foot_gear toward front" is with the throttle/gear lever pushed forward. Looking at the rear of boat the prop locks cw and clicks ccw. This currently make the boat go in reverse.

I unbolted the shift assembly from the riser when I replaced the risers. I have no history of the boat. I am learning allot about repairing boats but also allot about buying a boat.

That's part of the problem, I can't say how it worked before I replaced the impeller. I have not worked on the cables or control box since I've owned boat. I bought it off a third party who had no history.

The cable going to the drive does look a little new. I guess I could look at title and try and track previous owner down.

Is it possible the lower unit is a ccw drive?

In the picture below, when you put the control into forward, the cable should go the direction of the arrow, does it.

No. Moves in the same direction as control lever.

Ok, it's hooked up wrong in the control box. I will find the diagram.
