On ok I'm looking for a motor for my 1988 18.5 Shadow Bass Boat. I'll have to go with a used motor for right now. I got two kids in college!!!! I've found a 1990 110 HP Johnson with compression on all 4@about 95 PSI for about $1000.00 and a 1990 GT 150 with compression on all 6 @ about 90PSI for about $2000. What is a good to great compression to look for? What do any of you think about the two above with my rig? I not one looking for speed, just being able to get from one point to the next, to fish is what I'm looking for. Thanks for any help or suggestions. God bless all.

#1 is what is the boat rated for? look on the plate. i'd want atleast 100 psi. but if the are all equal, you have to consider the guage my be off. i think the 150 would be overkill.

18.5 Shadow Bass Boat rated up to a 185Hp. The 150 is being sold by a dealer and his tec. have check the engine out. What do you mean by the 150 being overkill? Thanks and God bless all.:D

i ment not know what it was rated for it seams like a lotta engine on an 18 ft boat. but if it's rated for the 185, go with the 150. i've got a 90 on an 18 ft that runs at 45 mph. thats fast enough for me.

I don't think you'd be happy with the V4. By the time you fill up some livewells and add a buddy it'll struggle. It'll work but it'll struggle. Forget about the hp numbers, think about torque. The 150 makes a lot more torque than the V4.

Now if you really want to get serious, look for a 60* 150 or 175 looper. That'll make an excellent motor for that boat.

And to be most efficient the boat will need to have enough torque to get up on the pad. The V4 might do it if it was light but the V6 will always get you up on the pad.
