how's everybody doin? peachy, i hope. here's the deal, i have a '78 omega tri hull with a 130 volvo I/O in pretty good condition for its age. i took it out on the ocean to run it before i left for iraq. Im stationed in camp pendleton, Ca. so theres not a whole lot of freshwater options. anyways i didnt get to flush it out afterwards(i live in the barracks and i had to borrow the truck) and ive been beatin myself up over it since then. i had a sgt. buddy who said he would take it and even use ut while i was gone, but i all i had was temp. registration papers to give to him and so he was scared to even touch the boat much less crank it up for me every now and then. (weird right?)

anyhow,,, what should i do maintenance wise when i get back from iraq before i take it out again?

p.s. i know it was stupid not to flush it out after saltwater but hey, im human. please just answer the question, lol.jk

For one thing, you can go to the link below and download an owners manual for your model. ( suspect it's an AQ130D )
http://www.volvo.com/volvopenta/glo...ice/publication_search/publication_search.htm

The first thing I would do is see if it starts. (with muffs on of course) and then see if it pumps water. If it does, I would get some Salt away and the mixing unit and run it on salt away a couple of times just to get the salt out of it. Whiles it sitting, with a warm engine, do all maintenance items, Full tuneup, oil change, fuel filters, gear lube change, I would even change the ujoint bellows because it's easy to do, and VERY expensive if it leaks and usually requires an engine pull to fix the damaged bearings in the bellhousing.
Also replace the raw water pump impeller. It's the heart of the cooling system and easy to change.

And Thanks a TON for what you do.

I would run some cleaner through it such as salt away, and perform seasonal maintenance maybe change the joint seals, bellows, etc.
Thank you very much for your service!

Ditto. Even though I am north of the 49th, I have an extreme amount of repect for what you guys are doing. If your boat was closer, I'd give you a hand and even supply the beer.

Take care and hope you are home soon.

Have a great day,

Rob.
