HELP 88' Mariner 150 outboard peeing problems,stops peeing after 10min of idle time

Stumped here, have a mariner 150 1988, just recently have had overheating problems. Peed fine before new poppet assembly. Poppet leaked, tightened the diapham screw,stopped leaking. Now the motor will run for 10-15 min then stops peeing and starts to steam???? Put in new water pump kit and tstats, start motor have about 3 psi water press @1000 rpm,5 psi at 2000k, motor runs for 15 minutes and loses all water pressure, zero, nothing. If I let it sit for a few hours and restart, same thing it will pee and then stop after 15 minutes or throttling up. I'm stumped,maybe exhaust seal?? Any help would be greatly appreciated! thankks Mike

Put old poppet back in.

Just the old poppet? Or old spring too? Also how tight should the diaphram screwbe?

well put old poppet assembly back in this morning, motor showed b/w 3-5psi on gauge and was peeing. throttled it to 2000rpm showed 10psi then would drop right below 5. It seemed to bounce back and forth then the gauge would fall flat under throttle????????? Arg!

Cant find anywhere in manual re poppet replacement.Id say just tighten snug.Usaually if specific torque required there would be a warning.google this video,just watched it...pretty good..."HOW TO REMOVE AND REPAIR POPPET VALVE 2005 ..."

hi guys took boat out today got mercury 60 1987 3 cyl 2 stroke when out impellor was fine when took it back and fired her up again no water out of pee hole instead was smoke , as far as i know impellor is at least 3 to four years old could impellor just sieze n melt just like that or maybe something else

hi guys took boat out today got mercury 60 1987 3 cyl 2 stroke when out impellor was fine when took it back and fired her up again no water out of pee hole instead was smoke , as far as i know impellor is at least 3 to four years old could impellor just sieze n melt just like that or maybe something else

Nova, check that new poppet. I had four from Sierra that were drilled and tapped crooked. The poppet would hang. I threw them all away and ordered from Merc Parts Express. Never had a problem after that. Also check your t-stats and make sure you put the rubber grommets/gaskets on correctly. Make sure the water tube from the water pump up to the exhaust plate is in correctly.

Just an update,put the old poppet backin this am, motor has 5psi at 1000 rpm throttle it to 1500 and have 10psi, give it more throtte and the gauge starts to bounce from 10 to 5. I have the motor running in a 55 gal drum in my yard. Could the bouncing effect on the gauge be all the air bubbles churning when i raise the rpm?
