Hi! I was wondering if there are things I can do to get even more out of my motor? I'm obviously looking at getting 100% performance and would really like to get even more! Perhaps 5HP or something out of it.

What are things I can do to make sure it's running 100% and then what else can I do to get it running at 120%?

Me and my cousin joke around with it, we call it the 45HP (drop the point) cause it's so fast (LOL) ;)

I got this motor from my step-dad for free and currently I'm NOT looking for a new motor because:
1. I have no job right now (just finished high school)
2. I don't own a boat (need one of those before i BUY a motor), i use my uncles.
3. I want to play with my motor i have now

So anyways, like i said.. we talk and joke and were thinking about things like:
- Plastic 2 Fin Speed Prop
- Play with the Carb
- More Octane (my dad was telling me that the more octane you have the harder/hotter the engine needs to work.. so Supreme Gasoline wouldn't give any performance, in fact it would take away from it?)
- Fuel Additives (see above)
- If we had to, as a project (never rebuilt a motor before, well.. only a lawnmower in auto class :p) rebuild the motor
- Better spark plug (currently have an NGK, the one with no point on the end of it)

Thanks in advance for any replies.

Don't bother trying to get any more power from a 4.5hp engine, it just isn't going to happen. If you really want performance, sell that engine and buy something bigger. Wait until you have a boat and then get an engine to match it. If you really want to mess around with the engine go right ahead, its possible you might get more power but you'll probably end up doing more harm than good. Sorry to be so blunt but there are very few outboards that you can easily increase the power of.

ah too bad, one could always hope that maybe the 4.5 block is the same as a, lets say, 6 :p, you know.. kinda like a 9.9 and a 15 being the same block :), gotta love modding your engines carb for like $100 and gaining 5.1HP

Actually, the 4.5 shares the same 5.5 cube powerhead configuration as the 3.5 and 4, so you're already running a "tweaked" motor...

Put it on a smaller boat. Since you don't have money to buy a new motor...try to make this one last until you do.
