Hello,

I have a 1973 Johnson 20hp motor, I can NOT get it to fire.

I have replaced both sparked plugs, But I'm not sure thay are firing. They do have a little shock, with you pull on the rope, but I don't see any spark. Looking for some help ! Where should I start next?

Thanks

Ed

Go to a hardware store and get a spark gap tester. Not the kind that just lights up a bulb, but a true gap tester. They're about $5. They're about 4" long and they clip to the motor anywhere that there's bare metal and where the plug wires can reach it. You take out both plugs, clip that jobby in a good spot, and hook up the plug wires one at a time to the gadget. The gadget is made so when you pull the motor the spark will jump across an adjustable gap. You want a nice blue spark that jumps a quarter-inch or so with a "snap!". If you don't have that then you have a spark problem. Post results.
