After winterizing my motor, I noticed some fluid leaking leaking out of the lower unit...

there's two small holes on the side opposite of the drain and vent plugs.. the top hole is about even with the vent plug. The lower hole is seeping a bit of fluid.

I don't know if I overfilled the unit a bit after I drained it, or if this is normal. I don't know why this should seep though, since the lower unit should be watertight.

Anyone have any clues?

Shawn

ps the fluid that came out did seem a bit coffee colored, but I don't know if I thought wtaer actually got in there or not...

Fear not, what you have is exhaust residue.

as in residue from all of that fogging spray I used winterizing it?

that would make sense. I'll run it a while in the spring and check the lower unit fluid to make sure it looks good.

shawn

Yes on the fogging oil. Take a whif of it. It probably smells like gas. Nothing smells as bad as lower unit oil. It is real common to have unburned gas and oil coming out of these holes.
