HAVE USED 97 BIGFT JUST BOUGHT AND NEED TO INSTALL SHIFT SHAFT. NEED SOME POINTERS IF ANYONE KNOWS FOOL PROOF WAY TO STAB IT.NEVER REPAIRED BOAT MOTOR B4. I 'VE BEEN TOLD TOO MANY HORROR STORIES OF IT DONE WRONG. ALSO I HEARD THAT YOU CAN PUT LIKE 5 PSI OF AIR PRESSURE IN LOWER UNIT TO TEST FOR LEAKS IN SHIFT SHAFT SEALS. IS THAT TRUE, IF NOT HOW DO I CHECK TO MAKE SURE I DON'T ROLLL THE O-RINGS ON INSTALL. I DON'T WANT TO PUT IN LAKE TIL I KNOW IT';S RIGHT.

I'm sorry to say that this ^^^ is incredibly difficult to read!

Pressure testing will determine if oil will leak out. So, is 5psi air enough to pressure test? I prefer 10... In order to make sure that water won't leak in, you also want to vacuum test it... and use about 15" Hg.

I have never heard a 'horror story' about putting a leg back on.

Next time you post... please use proper capitalization and punctuation... and don't use SMS formatted words.

This is what your post should have looked like....

I've been told too many horror stories of it done wrong. Also I heard that you can put about 5 psi of air pressure in lower unit to test for leaks in shift shaft seals. Is that true? If not, how do I check to make sure I haven't rolled the o-rings on installation? I don't want to put in lake until I know it's right.

Thank for your help.
