Help 454 mercruiser wont go??

well here i go.<br />Was going along motor starts spittering a backfireing its conks out. Bilge pump goes on. It wont shut off. it runs of the switch.<br />motor wont turn over nothing. i wait 5 mineuts it barley starts. 5 mineuts later it dose this cycle all over. now it wont do anything. bateries all tested good. any ideas what to do???

Start with the fact that the bilge kept going sound electrical<br /><br />------------------<br />Everyday a catfish is just around the way.<br />Maybe today a big one<br />will take my worm away

"It won't do anything." Hmmm...kinda sounds like my ex-wife!<br /><br />Without more specifics...I'd say you first need to investigate your electrical circuits. When you say your bilge pump turned on by itself and wouldn't shut off with the switch (that IS what you are saying, isn't it?) it sounds like something has shorted...Describe in more detail what you mean by "barely starts" etc... i turn the key. and nothing. no acc. every thig is dead. every thing works on switch board, blower lights radios. but no bilige pump no ignition....

I'd like to also add that just because the battery says it has the volts doesnt mean it has the amps required to do something like engage the starter<br /><br />------------------<br />Everyday a catfish is just around the way.<br />Maybe today a big one<br />will take my worm away

Start at the battery and clean both terminal and cable ends until they shine like a new quarter. When you think you are done ,clean some more.Let us know what happens.
