Hi All,

I just acquired a 2000 Honda BF8a Four Stroke outboard. I cant seem to get it started!! I am new to this outboard and know very little about it.

The emergency stop key is in.... Fuel primed and getting to the carb bowl.....choke on...made sure it is in neutral..... tiller set to start position..... and nothing!! I pulled the plugs to check spark and I am getting nothing!

Do I need a battery hooked up to this motor? it has a charging output port....but I am not hooked to any battery..

Please excuse the ignorance but this is fairly new to me...

Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!

You do not need a battery connected to that engine.Ignition output with this engine while pulling it over is dismal but actual failures are extremely rare.Try pulling it over with the plugs in the boots in a dark room and see what happens when the plugs are grounded to the block.Use a good set of insulated pliers or a girlfriend you intend to lose for that procedure.

Re: (((HELP))) 2000 Honda 8hp bf8a NO SPARK??

did you ever get you problem resolved, if so how, I have a simular problem.

"I bought a BF75 knowing it had no spark, thinking I could easily repair it. However it has become a little more than I expected. After replacing virtually every part, and testing all the voltages, I am no closer than when I started. The out put of the CDI to the coil, is a pulse of about 12v, I believe this should be much much higher, like 250v. which leads me to believe the CDI module is bad. I have 250v pulse from exciter coil, 6v pulse from the cam coil. (did mention all of these items have been replaced including the coil?) ANY HELP would be greatly appreciated!"
