I had my speedster sitting up about 6 months over the winter I went out recently to see there was water sitting in the motor compartment I pulled the drain plug and drained it all out . I waited a few days went back out try and crank it neither engine would fire up. Took it to a friend he put rebuild kits on both carbs then one of the starters went bad so I got a new one he put that on he got both fired up running good. Next thing was go put it in the water to see how it would run. He said when he threw the throttle to both motors it would only coast it wouldnt pick up speed. He said acted like the throttle cables were not even hooked up...He said every now and then it would take off but moreless it would not what does this sound like????? I might better take it to sea doo. Like I said it was running fine I parked it like sept covered it and it hasnt been cranked until a few weeks ago....It has had both carbs rebuilt and new starter.....

could be a lot of things but first suspect is bad fuel. run on an auxiliary fuel tank and see if it runs better.

Need to drain out the gas in my seadoo

Need to drain out the gas in my seadoo

Hey I think its bad gas to just got carbs rebuilt when out it would take off at times and others it wouldnt so now Im wanting to drain all the fuel out the tank it has less than a half a tank in there maybe a 1/4 of a tank. How is the best way of draining the tank is there a hose or some way to drain it one guy said pull the plug drain it all in the motor compartment and just pull the plug at the back of boat to drain it out but I dont want to do that for it to run all out in the grass at my apt Need to know how about how to go about this Then Im gonna fill it back up and put in fuel and water seperator Seadoo said I can get that at the parts store they suggest this done with old gas that had been sitting in the tank

Got this post from another site....I think I try this Guys

If I were you I would drain all the fuel from the tank. Just remove the large fuel hose from the top of the tank. Use one of those hand pumps and pump all the fuel out of the tank into a gas can. Get out the most you can. Go to the gas station and fill up with the highest octane cas you can find. Sunoco Ultra would work the best. Then run the boat for a few hours out on the water. Goodluck

Change the spark plugs while you're at it..cheap - and what you're describing sounds like it could be a fouled plug. Why your friend rebuilt your carbs and then proceeded to let you run the old fuel is beyond me. If it didn't have stabilizer in it it could be the probem. Get fresh fuel and run the boat and get it hot. Don't forget to top off the oil reservoir and put in the drain plugs ;) I had an 18 footer with the twin 720's years ago - pretty zippy but it annoyed the crap out of me it won't go straight in a no wake zone.

I have actually removed a rear hull drain and run some clear vinyl tubing in through the open drain all the way to the reserve pickup on top of the fuel tank, then just siphoned the fuel out in to empty 5 gal cans,, but since they invented electricity and I have an electric fuel pump, I use that.

guy at boaters world said if it only had like 3 to 5 gals just add some
> fuel and water seperator in that old fuel fill up with 93 octane and it be
> fine say a lot easier than trying to drain out the 5 gals

Then why post here? A monkey could siphon out a fuel tank.

Oh, is this the boater's World that is bankrupt? I'm sure there are a still a lot of qualified people still working there as their ship is going down . . .

Probably not the best place to be getting info at this point.

Just siphon it out into a container. Why take a chance with $10 worth of bad fuel still in there

Re: Help 1997 sea doo speedster boat has twin 85hp 2 stroke engines

all it takes is a few ounces of water left in the tank to mess up the carbs,, and water will sit at the bottom because it is heavier than gas,, I just had an issue with water in my pontoon fuel tank and it had to be completely cleaned out to fix it. you are not sure if the fuel is the issue but it is the first suspect for your problem

I am not sure how much i would trust your friend. I would check the high and low speed fuel settings on the carbs I would also check carb popo off. Take a compression test on those 720's? and let us know what it shows. Do not run those engines lean. You do have oil in the tank?

Re: Help 1997 sea doo speedster boat has twin 85hp 2 stroke engines

ok I will drain it all out I see where the big black hose is clamped on the top side of tank I just un loose hose clamps pull hose off and insert my hose to pump it out that way.Well CCDave I post that to see what you guys thought. I got 4 new plugs in now also. So will all the fuel be able to be pumped out just figured without taken tank all the way out a drop or two prob still be in it....

thanks

I dont know how to do a compression test sorry. Maybe I should take it to sea doo hate to know something not set right.... I could drain the fuel and the stabilizer and a tank of 93 octane fuel and go but dont know if high and low speed fuel settings are set right

Re: Help 1997 sea doo speedster boat has twin 85hp 2 stroke engines

high speed jets should be all the way in and start with 1.25 turns out on the low speed jets. to check compression get a gage at a auto parts store and screw the fitting in to the spark plug hole, open the throttle and crank the engine without any spark plugs, see what the gage says then do the other cylinder and they should be fairly similar
