Just started our holiday up here in Canada and would love to have a working craft. Cannot give a comp. And don't think this is an engine issue. When throttling up it seems the engine revs higher but a disengagement is noticed..then...while moving throttle back down,it seems as if the engagement is again made and the craft makes forward progress without slipping. The only noise we here is a faint tapping sound. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks you.

It sounds like the clutch in the lower unit is not engaging right. The shift cable might need to be adjusted. If you take the bottom cable off and spin the barrell on the cable so it moves toward the end of the cable, this will adjust the clutch closer to the forward gear. If you adjust it too far it might not engage in reverse.
