Help...I have a 1989 Malibu Sunsetter with a v8 inboard mercruiser engine. I was pulling a wakboard till I heard a "POP" on the engine and it just stalled. I lifted the engine cover and noticed oil spilling out of oil pan. I thought it maybe a gasket but I noticed a hole was punctured on both sides of the oil pan about 1" below the gasket. I was told it was caused buy engine over stressed and the push rods probably caused the holes. Only rev the boat at an average of 2600 no more that 3000 when towing someone. That's an average of 18 to 22 mph.

Re: HELP -- 1989 Malibu with Merc Engine - push rods put hole on oil pan.

This happened yerterday 7/5 and I called a Mechanic that replaced my top half of the heads to to a cracked block 2yrs ago on a freezing winter. He told me without looking at it that it will cost more than the $1500 that it costed for the cracked head. I know that it has to be taken in to get checked out but do these price look right.
