In a previous thread I explained how no matter what i tried i could not get the Pivot pin off of my volvo penta 275. I need some guidence on trying to take the helmet off by the steering fork. am trying to change the u-joint bellows and so far connot get to it due to the side holes in the pivot pin being stripped. I have tried to put 2 bolts just in the holes and try turning it with a screw driver and grabbing it with vice grips. its on there pretty good. So as far as i know my other option is inside by the fork. Any help is always appreciated.

Are you sure you are getting deep enough to your threads? The first 1/2 or so does not have any threads. You may have quite a bit of gunk in there that needs to be cleaned out. I used penetrating fluid and a small screw driver to clean mine out. If you are sure that you are all the way in (The pin is about an inch thick) and you are sure the threads are stripped, then you could do the following: Buy a thread and tap set and just tap new threads in those holes.

I just did mine about 2 weeks ago and they were filled with gunk. I actually ended up breaking a bolt off in one of the holes:mad: Once I got it all apart, I was able to get the broken bolt out. This is a sign that it has been awhile since it was apart. I ended up having water in my bellows and now I need to replace the intermediate bearings, which requires an engine pull, ugh...

Good luck, let us now how it ends up.
