Not sure if this is the right place for a "hello my name is" thread, but here it is!

My Name's Derek, but my friends call me Sasq or Squatch. I'm livin in the Northwest and just bought my first boat!:D I've repaired many friends boats and have been around them off and on throughout my life and ran across a great deal on a 1975 Fiberform 24'. Here's a pic.

I'm interested in crabbing and weekend trips. Any info someone can give me on this boat would be greatly appreciated, such as model etc. It has a Mercruiser 888 in it and hasn't ran in a couple years. I'm also into bikes and have a 2012 Triumph Tiger800xc.

Re: Hello!

Welcome to iboats.

I like the Triumph XC ;)

Well can't give you specifics on the boat however, you will find lots of repair info for the motor and outdrive.

Re: Hello!

HI Derek. Welcome to iboats. Cool new toy you got there. She's kinda big, but sporty too. If you look on/near the transom (back of the boat) there should be a small metal plate riveted to the boat itself. It's called an HIN (hull identification number) and is just like the VIN tag that is riveted to the dashboard in your car. Once you find it, finding more info will be a lot easier. It may have been painted over at some point so you may need to snoop around and look closely. They're sometimes riveted in place near the helm rather than the transom as well.

Re: Hello!

Thanks for the welcome guys!

KFA, I indeed have the HIN. I'll plug it into google and see what it spits out.

Bob, I love my XC and could wear out this thread talking about it! LOL.

My plan is to just get it sea worthy and then give it a slight overhaul such as upgrading the electrics and interior. It indeed is 70's high fashion.

I love to look through catalogs and mags about things, what are some good boating ones you'd recommend? I like to do my research. The boat did come with a few manuals for the stern drive and engine.

Re: Hello!

Thanks for the compliments on the rig guys. I'll pass it on to the Boss (wife) for letting me get it! LOL

Looks like I might have to dig in the library for some info on the model of the boat. I got the HIN and tried to decode it via the net and about as much as I can make out is that it is indeed a 1975 and 24' long. Ha! Well, might have to hit the library one day with the wife. What would you call this style of boat is it a Cuddy cabin? Cruiser? Forgive my ignorance.

Re: Hello!

It's a sedan or flybridge; definitely not a cuddy.

Hey Sasq: as you start this journey be sure to record all serial numbers (engine and outdrive) you come across and take pictures of everything you work on. This will make if easier when you come across a problem and need a bit of help. This is a great place to find answers. If you haven't already done so, drain all the fluids before attempting to start her up. Pull the outdrive and have a look at the bellows and water hoses.

Re: Hello!

Thanks for the advise Series,
I have noticed it needs to come off and that the bellows hose and water hose back there are in poor condition. Id does look like the po did replace all the cooling hoses on the engine though. I will indeed flush all the fluids, replace the spark plugs and throw some wd40 or similar into the cylinders. I see fresh wires, but the cap looks old. It's got a metal fuel tank, but who knows A. How much fuel is in it and B. what shape it's in. I can bet some money they carb needs to come off and be rebuilt.

On they type it is: Isn't a fly bridge one where it sits on top of the cabin? Does someone have a link or thread where the different types of boats are identified?

Thanks guys!

Re: Hello!

Now that I look at the picture again, I see there's no height for a helm up top, so I guess sedan is the proper description.

Re: Hello!

Thanks NYBo!

Sedan eh? Interesting.. I've got a lot to learn about these larger boats. Is there a sticky, faq about these style or on boats of this size?

I'm out on medical recovering from having my lower wisdom teeth removed. Man, I shouldn't have waited so long but they haven't given me any issues and I HATE to go to the dentist. Anyways I'm off for the rest of the week and have been doing a lot of tractor work getting the boat area ready and fixing the drive. We had something like 80+ days no rain this summer and the ground was harder than concrete. Got bored of sitting around so I figure I better clear an area (don't like it sitting in the field). As soon as the parking area is done I'm going to go through the steps of getting it running. I'll of course make a good post in the tech area about it. Same with the parking area. May be of interest to some folks.

Re: Hello!

Cool boat. Very similar to mine. I have found a davit comes in handy for crabbing, easier on the back. Mine came with one. Your wife is no longer the "boss". She is now the "Admiral" :). There is probably a local US Power Squadron chapter near you somewhere. I have found mine to be an enormous wealth of training info, advice, tall stories, get together cruises, and camaraderie. Good luck and safe returns.

Re: Hello!

Hey there Steve!

Up in Portland Eh? My wife and I are near Corvallis now and she's going to U of O. When she graduates this year we may be looking to move up that way for her career. I looked up the Power squadron thing and it looks great. I'll have to sign up for a lot of those classes. I have a lot to learn, I'm very much a noob. And SHhhHh! I am not mentioning she might be the admiral. If I can make her think she's only the Boss on dry land... haha
