has anyone ever inflated their inflatable with helium gas to ruduce the weight and thus get more MPH? I'm thinkin about it but sounds like a really stupid human trick. Any comments welcomed. :D

Re: helium

I don't know how much benefit you'll gain- my guess is not enough to matter much. And your wallet will lose more weight than the boat will. Keep in mind that helium will leak from the boat much more readily than air, as well.

What's the use? In the area (size of tube) you are talking about, you might gain a pound or two of lift.<br /><br />Save your money for fuel.

LIke Dj said, save your money for fuel.. It would cost you more money to buy the helium and how are you going to fill your inflatable boat. Haul the helium tank to the boat to ne inflated???

so far everyone is a looser, anytime you can do something to make it faster, more power to you.if you raceing and crossing the wire is tight with compitition, youll be glad you have the edge.ive read where top fuel dragsters and funny cars do this. me I use helium for other things.Like filling trash bags. Then fill another trash bag with natural gas.on that bag attatch a part of a flair or left over fire works.let er go and then kaboom. once i had an extra smoke detector the kind used inside the home.Well I rigged the test button so the test noise stayed on.I set that aloft under some heliun bags. That one was funny.could be heard a long ways off.

Why are you trolling a boat board? Shouldn't you be trolling a fishing board.

Re: helium

with age comes wisdom, i'll admit blowing things up is cool if safety comes first. but in our "post 911" world it kinda spooks some folks.as for gassguzzler maybe youth is a determining factor in his colorful posting.cumon lessall getalong ;)

I agree! This may be "Stupid Human Tricks" but the stupid part is generally unintentional. We admit our goofs as a way to laugh at ourselves, not brag about just plain ignorant things we did on purpose. After all there is a difference between the "stupid" and just plain ignorant idiocy. That's what seperates the Neanderthals from the rest of us.

Maybe we should split this board into two...<br />One could be called "Boating D'ohs!" and the other the "Hey ya'll, watch this! aka - the Redneck Board."<br />:)
